Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Highlights the Strategic Role of Egyptian Infrastructure in Transporting Gas to Europe

Egypt participated today, with a delegation headed by Eng. Karim Badawi , Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, in the 10th Ministerial Meeting of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum EMGF, hosted in Washington, D.C., under the theme "Regional and International Challenges and the Future of the EMGF".

The meeting was held under the presidency of H.E. Stavros Papastavrou, Greek Minister of Environment and Energy, and with the participation of Mr. Osama Mobarez , EMGF Secretary General, alongside ministers and heads of delegations of permanent member and observer countries of the organization, which was established through an Egyptian initiative in cooperation with Cyprus and Greece as an international organization headquartered in Cairo.

During Egypt's speech at the meeting, the Minister emphasized that Egypt calls upon all relevant stakeholders to reactivate talks regarding the development of Palestinian offshore hydrocarbon resources, which will bring a more prosperous future to the people of Palestine, in both the West Bank and Gaza, improving the lives of its citizens.

The Minister also reviewed Egypt's role as a regional hub for trading and exchanging energy, pointing out that Egypt possesses the East Mediterranean's most integrated energy infrastructure network, including natural gas processing facilities, transmission networks, strategic ports, and LNG export facilities in Idku and Damietta, which are the only liquefaction facilities in the East Mediterranean region and represent an essential gateway connecting regional gas resources to global markets.
