Egypt and Cyprus Sign Commercial Agreements for the Cronos Gas Field Project to Connect to Egypt’s Infrastructure
During his participation in the East Mediterranean Energy Conference and Exhibition (EMC) held in Limassol, Cyprus, Eng. Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and his Cypriot counterpart, George Papanastasiou, witnessed the signing of the agreements related to the Cronos Gas Field Project. The project aims to transport gas from Cyprus to Egypt and connect it to Egypt’s natural gas infrastructure.
These agreements define the operational and commercial frameworks for the transportation, supply, processing, and liquefaction of gas for export, as well as the utilization of Egypt’s existing gas infrastructure.
Eng. Karim Badawi emphasized that the signing of these agreements represents the culmination of the successful understandings between H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and H.E. President Nikos Christodoulides of Cyprus, aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation and expediting the connection of Cypriot gas fields to Egypt’s gas infrastructure.
He added that these agreements reinforce Egypt’s position as a regional hub for natural gas trade and circulation in the Eastern Mediterranean, while also supporting Cyprus in developing and exporting its natural gas resources to global markets through Egypt’s infrastructure.
On the sidelines of the conference, the Cronos Field Tariff Agreement was initialed between the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and the international companies Eni and TotalEnergies.
Signing on behalf of Egypt was Dr. Mohamed El-Bagoury, Supervisor of the Central Administration for Legal Affairs at the Ministry, along with Alessandro Gilmotti, General Manager of Eni Cyprus, and Pascal Brian, General Manager of TotalEnergies Exploration and Production Cyprus.
Additionally, the Handling, Processing, and Transportation Agreement for the Cronos Field Project was signed by Eng. Mahmoud Abdel Hamid, Chairman of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), while the investment partners were represented by Francesco Gaspari, President of IOEC Production (an Eni subsidiary), Alessandro Gilmotti, General Manager of Eni Cyprus, and Pascal Brian, General Manager of TotalEnergies Exploration and Production Cyprus.
