Intensive Meetings to Enhance Cooperation in the Natural Gas Sector on the Sidelines of EGYPES 2026

On the sidelines of the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES) 2026, a series of important meetings were held by leaders of the petroleum sector with a number of major international companies. The meetings aimed to explore opportunities for joint cooperation and maximize the benefits from the advanced infrastructure of Egypt’s natural gas sector, thereby enhancing the flexibility of the supply system and reinforcing Egypt’s position as a regional hub for gas trading and circulation.

Strengthening Cooperation in FSRU Operations

Within this context, a meeting was held with Hoegh LNG to review avenues for enhancing cooperation in the field of Floating Storage and Regasification Units (FSRUs). Discussions included reviewing the existing contract for chartering the Hoegh Galleon FSRU, currently operating at Ain Sokhna port, and its role in supporting Egypt’s regasification capacities.

Studying the Establishment of a New FSRU at Damietta

The discussions also covered the possibility of establishing a new FSRU within the Damietta complex, in cooperation with Eni and the Egyptian LNG Company, with the aim of maximizing the utilization of existing facilities and infrastructure. This would contribute to enhancing the operational flexibility of the gas sector in addressing fluctuations in demand and supply.

The meetings were attended by Eng. Yassin Mohamed, Executive Managing Director of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS); Eng. Mohamed Abdel Hamid, Vice President for Operations; Eng. Osama El-Sendoubi, Vice President for Planning; Eng. Abdel Nasser Khafagy, Vice President for Agreements; Eng. Bassem Mohamed Bassiouny, Vice President of the Egyptian LNG Company in Damietta; and Mr. Khaled El-Gamal, General Manager for Imports and Exports.

Expanding Strategic Partnerships

These meetings come as part of the petroleum sector’s ongoing commitment to expanding areas of cooperation with international partners and enhancing Egypt’s capabilities in natural gas reception and trading. This aligns with the state’s strategy to achieve energy security and optimize the utilization of available infrastructure.
