Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources in Athens during EMGF Roundtable
Eng. Karim Badawi , Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, participated in the high-level roundtable meeting of energy ministers, leaders of organizations, and investors in the gas industry, held in the Greek capital, Athens. The meeting was organized by the East Mediterranean Gas Forum in cooperation with Greek company Hellenic Energy.
They discussed ways to move the Eastern Mediterranean gas resources from dialogue to the actual implementation of economically viable projects, through developing discovered resources and connecting them to the infrastructure required for their transportation and processing and for making them available to markets, in addition to removing obstacles facing priority projects, enhancing cooperation among governments, companies, and investors, and supporting efforts to reach Final Investment Decisions (FIDs) and commence implementation.
Eng. Karim Badawi emphasized that regional cooperation in securing energy resources represents an important pillar of Egypt’s approach in the region, enhancing security of supply and the resilience of energy systems in facing challenges, while supporting investment attraction and accelerating the development of resources and their transformation into economic value through integration among the capabilities of countries and energy companies.
The Minister also reviewed developments in Egyptian-Cypriot cooperation in the domain of gas, emphasizing that it has evolved from a framework of strategic partnership into commercial arrangements and projects under implementation on the ground, aimed at leveraging Egypt’s infrastructure to develop Cyprus’s gas resources.
