ADIPEC 2025 Conference and Exhibition in Abu Dhabi

The Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources during his participation in the ADIPEC 2025 Conference and Exhibition in Abu Dhabi, witnessed the signing of an agreement to implement an advanced seismic survey project using Ocean Bottom Nodes (OBN) technology in the East Mediterranean region, covering an area of 95,000 square kilometers. The project will utilize the latest seismic and exploration technologies and was awarded to the SLB (Schlumberger) – Viridien alliance after winning the bid announced by the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS).

The agreement was signed by Eng. Mahmoud Abdel Hamid, Executive Managing Director of EGAS, and Eng. Sherif Bayoumy, President of Schlumberger Egypt, alongside Erling Frantzen, Vice President of Viridien for Seismic Survey Projects.

The Minister emphasized that the project aims to maximize the benefits of Egypt’s gas resources in the East Mediterranean and to enhance investment opportunities in gas exploration and production activities.

He added that the high-precision data provided by this project, through the use of cutting-edge technologies, will help reduce exploration risks, enabling the launch of attractive investment opportunities for international companies to expand their operations in Egypt and intensify drilling activities — thereby supporting an increase in domestic production. The project will be implemented in three phases, with the first phase set to begin in 2026, covering an area of 18,000 square kilometers.
