EGAS Field Visit to West Mina Deepwater Project Highlights Progress Toward 2026 Production Start-Up

As part of the ongoing follow-up on the development of current and future projects in Egypt’s petroleum sector, and in line with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ objectives to achieve the highest possible production rates, a field visit was conducted to the West Mina Deepwater Project (Mina West).

The visit included an on-site review of the various execution areas of the project, attended by Eng. Abdel Nasser Khafagy, Vice Chairman of EGAS for Production and Field Development, along with senior officials from the Projects Department of Rashid Petroleum Company. Several productive meetings were also held at the senior management level with Subsea 7 (SS7), the project’s main contractor.

During these meetings, confirmation was made that project execution is progressing in accordance with the approved master plan, supporting the targeted start-up of production in the fourth quarter of 2026. It was also confirmed that all activities on the project’s critical path—including electrical and hydraulic control lines as well as flexible production lines—are nearing completion in line with the targeted schedules.

Discussions were also held with the main contractor regarding the possibility of accelerating the production start-up, during which all available technical and execution solutions were reviewed. The parties agreed to study potential acceleration options and reconvene to discuss them once the assessments are completed.

In parallel, and in line with ensuring a balanced focus between ongoing projects and future developments, the visit included a meeting with Wood Group Kenny, the strategic partner of ENPPI responsible for the detailed engineering studies of Phase 12A. The meeting confirmed the completion of all preliminary studies and the project’s readiness to move forward into the final engineering phase.

The visit further included a senior-level meeting with Baker Hughes, the supplier of wellheads and long-lead control systems for the project. During the meeting, Baker Hughes confirmed its commitment to deliver the wellheads within 13 months instead of 20 months, contributing to the acceleration of the targeted production start-up of Phase 12A in 2027, reflecting the long-standing partnership between the two sides.

EGAS, in cooperation with the companies operating in the field development sector, reaffirms its continued efforts to maximize natural gas production and support the State’s vision of positioning Egypt as a regional energy hub.
