Agreements and Exploration

  • One of the most important objectives of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) is to maximize the proven reserves of natural gas. In order to achieve this goal, exploration operations are supported by launching new international bid rounds in coordination with the Egypt Upstream Gateway (EUG) for new exploration areas to international companies and awarding blocks through the direct negotiation while encouraging the companies to expand their activities and investments inside Egypt, and exploiting new technologies of 2D and 3D seismic survey in the process of identifying and evaluating the desired geological research sites, and expanding the operations of drilling exploratory and evaluation wells to provide the accurate data necessary to calculate the added reserves.
  • The department has adopted a strategy based on the use of the latest technologies in the exploration. For example, an estimated 70% of the area of the company’s activity acreage has been covered with 3D seismic survey technology, which has helped in adding many new discoveries and contributed to identifying many of the geological structures with petroleum potential for future drilling.
  • Creating a unified digital database and integrated applications using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in coordination with the Ministry of Petroleum and its subsidiaries. Its primary goal is to develop a modern and effective platform to provide decision-makers with an integrated database that allows them to fully supervise all the company’s departments.
