EGAS Signs Cooperation Protocol with Al Obour for Smart Systems to Enhance Prepaid Gas Meter System

In line with Egypt’s digital transformation strategy and the expansion of prepaid gas meter usage among all facilities, the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) signed a cooperation protocol today, Monday, December 9, with Al Obour for Integrated Smart Systems. The company is an Egyptian joint- entity specializing in research and development of electronic systems for both civilian and military sectors.

This protocol aligns with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources' strategy to maximize the utilization of the approximately 12 million mechanical gas meters currently installed for natural gas customers. The initiative involves installing an upgrade unit that converts these meters into prepaid meters without the need to remove or replace the existing ones.

The agreement was signed by Eng. Yassin Mohamed, Executive Managing Director of EGAS, and Eng. Tarek Hassan Helmy, Director of Al Obour for Smart Systems, in the presence of Eng. Mohamed Khodair, EGAS Vice President for Gas Planning, Projects, and Business Development, and Eng. Abdel Moneim Osman, General Manager of Specifications and Services Monitoring.

This collaboration aims to enhance electronic payment mechanisms through safe and efficient methods, advancing the prepaid smart meter system as a modern and more efficient alternative. It also seeks to ease the financial burden on citizens while supporting Egypt's vision for financial inclusion and digital transformation, as outlined in the Ministry’s strategy and Egypt Vision 2030 plan.
