On the second day of the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES 2025), a high-level panel discussion titled “Gas Trading Hubs and Energy Corridors between North Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean” took place, featuring a distinguished group of leaders and experts from the energy sector.
The session discussed regional gas market developments and the need for cooperation among neighboring countries to improve gas flows, trade flexibility, and energy infrastructure. It also highlighted the need for new energy corridors, unified regulatory frameworks, and green hydrogen investments to support a sustainable energy future.
Eng. Yassin Mohamed Executive Managing Director of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), highlighted Egypt’s pivotal role in the regional energy landscape, leveraging its advanced LNG infrastructure, processing facilities, and new offshore pipeline projects to strengthen its position as a regional hub.
Eng. Yassin also expressed his satisfaction with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Cyprus to develop its newly discovered gas fields, “Cronos” and “Aphrodite,” and integrate them into Egyptian facilities. This initiative is expected to boost natural gas production and ensure a stable supply to both local and global markets, further solidifying Egypt’s status as a key regional energy hub.
Additionally, he emphasized the significance of supporting the private sector, fostering regional partnerships, and aligning policies across North Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean to facilitate LNG exports, drive clean energy transition, and create sustainable energy.
• Alan Linn, CEO of Cheiron Petroleum Corporation reaffirmed the company’s commitment to expanding its oil and gas operations in Egypt, with a strong focus on sustainable exploration and production.
• Maria Rita Galli, CEO of DESFA underscored the need to enhance gas transport infrastructure among regional countries. She noted that DESFA is actively working to integrate European and Middle Eastern markets through LNG interconnection projects.
• Eric Næhim, President and CEO of Höegh LNG, highlighted the crucial role of floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) in strengthening energy security in Egypt and the Eastern Mediterranean.
At the conclusion of the session, participants extended an open invitation to investors and international partners to explore the promising opportunities in Egypt. With large natural gas reserves in the Eastern Mediterranean and a growing focus on sustainable investments in the gas and renewable energy sectors, Egypt is well-positioned to become a global energy hub.
